we've got a royal who is now 3 and is usually a good feeder but.....she hasn't eaten now for A YEAR!!!
she is lively, shedding, drinking, lovely size and weight, all the normal stuff just not eating!
she seems hungry but wont strike or anything once rat is offered.
any ideas?? we were thinking bout offering her mice but they will be way too small for her so we're stuck!
please reply ASAP!! |

Mine has short fasting periods but i have found rubbing a rat with a mouse to transfere the scent helps. She will normally strike at a mousey smelling rat. |

I have had two royals go without food for over 9 months and during that time they look but don't eat they are now both eating for England, try leaving a rat in overnight and leaving undisturbed remove the following morning and leave a week before trying again, so long as they are healthy they will feed again in their own good time. check weights periodically and make sure they aren't losing too much other than that if all else is the same and their environment hasn't changed it's just a patient waiting game |

My royal donkey went 8 months without food, I got him to break his fast by offering a gerbil. Patience was my problem, in the end it took half an hour of persuasion and agitating him, in the end he took it 
With my other royal when he was on a fast for 7 months, to break the fast I persisted for 2 hours before he eventually took the mouse!
How long do you offer the food before you give up? It might just be patience that you need, thats what it was with my two.. |

Hi, have you seen the sticky on the general section - the non-feeding club? Could be a good idea to post on there too.
I think the longest I've heard of for a non-feeder is over 9 months. Your girl must hold the record and from what you say she sounds fine - but naturally you'd like her to start feeding - you must be feeling just a little bit jittery shall we say by now?
I can't add anything to what others have said, except my good wishes for her to start feeding again for you asap. All the very best with her. |

Have you tried braining the rats, or snipping the nape of their neck? Worked for my Tig. I've got two feeds into him so far.
There are many people who have been waiting months for their Pythons to feed. And as has been said, as long as she's not loosing a huge amount of weight it's OK. But I would try the braining or snipping the neck for her, see if she'll feed for you then, 'cause they love the smell!
Are her temps OK? And she definalty doesn't have mites? |

I guess a mouse whatever size would be better than nothing, iv heard that chicks would get her interested, other than that i guess it just wait and see, so long as shee dosnt lose too much weight.
Someone will correct me, but i think as long as they dont lose more than 15% - 20% of there body weight its all good |
