So I now have my first royal, picked up on Sunday at kempton. I have left him pretty much alone since then apart from changing the water. How long should u leave until you do the first feed?

I have his feeding records and he has been feeding every week without fail and the week is up tonight, so should I give it a try or leave for a few more days?

I thought I would give it a go tonight. Offered a small mouse which I warmed in a bowl of tap hot water.

Wiggled on tongs, and WHAM!! Took first time and nearly gave me a heart attack!! Really didn't expect a strike to be so fierce!!

Very cool though and chuffed to bits that he fed so quickly!

Congrats on your new royal!

Yes, as D3L has said. When you do offer, make sure his rat is nice and warm (30 secs on the nose with a hairdryer) and, according to how he likes to feed, offer on tongs or use the tongs to slip rat in casually and leave him to it (says she, who finds it impossible not to creep back and watch lol!)

Don't worry about a missed feed or two; he's had a big change in his life, as well as being at the show, and he may need time to settle. but do hope he feeds straight way for you.

When we got our male pastel we offered after 2 days of getting him and he feed
Now our pinstripe took 4 weeks to get feeding

What people say leave for a week to settle in then offer

It's up to you really
Doing it properly 7-10 days

Trying your luck when ever

What ever you choose good luck ;)
