Posted - 17/08/2011 : 23:35:20 Same as bats said really,If you put it on the side,Heat will travel to the cold side more.Where as top of viv,it hits the floor under the bulb more.
The back of the viv is better then the side,As heat will travel to the front of the viv.but you would have to mount the bulb lower down to get the floor temps right.
So top of viv is better,unless its a light source etc |

(wow - after all this time, I've learned how to post links!)
The heat bulb is better attached to the ceiling of the viv as the heat distribution is better, so I've always understood; also, if the bulb and guard were on the wall of the viv, there would be more danger of the snake climbing and basking on the guard and possibly being burned. Also it's more practical in the arrangement and cleaning of the viv; guards are awkward things and better off up on the ceiling out of the way (comparatively.) This is just my opinion - other people may be able to advise more fully.
