Posted - 23/08/2011 : 03:07:16 ONLY 40 GBPs? You lucky dawg! I paid 115 USD on mine and it's only a pulse proportional (can't be used on bulbs)... not a regular proportional (that dims instead of turns off and on). The proportional one was $130. |

Posted - 22/08/2011 : 20:49:22 We all know shops are a rip off hehe.As for which stat, thats really upto you.
On a side note,I ordered two ministats online few weeks back. When they arrived,Both didn't work and wouldn't power the mat on..
After trying afew things,I took the plug apart, where you plug the mat in.and found non of the wires connected to anything HAHA. |

Posted - 22/08/2011 : 17:12:54 Mat stats are 300w and mini stats are 100 w They both do the same thing
Just you can only plug into a mini stat heat mats upto 100w
If it's only going to be for the one mat then the mini stat will be fine
On the other hand
If and when your going to put your royal in to a viv and then use a ceramic bulb it will most probley be over 100w Then it would be better to buy the mat stat 300w So you don't have to upgrade when it time
:edit beat me to it bats ;) |

If it's just a mat stat, I'd get the cheapest one compatible with your mat. However, if you think you might be changing to ceramic/IR light later, I'd buy a dimmer stat; this is more expensive but will be compatible with everything (check wattage of course but I doubt if there'll be a problem.)
Speaking as someone who is now awash with spare mats and stats, I wish I'd bought dimmer stats from the start, but didn't even know about different stats at first ... |
