Posted - 25/10/2011 : 22:15:15 hi all just gone to change monties water and found some small bugs under the orchird bark substrate. the orchid bark comes from a good pet shop so can i still expect to find small bugs in amongst it. I thought they may have been mites but left mony on some kitchen roll for a bit and there were no mites left over on the paper! they were very small bugs but could see them crawling about |

Like this ...I'd bet anything that what's in your orchid bark isn't mites. Fingers crossed! |

Posted - 25/10/2011 : 23:05:09 best way to describe them is like little black dots. if you get one on your finger and look very closely you might be able to see the legs. as bats says the best sign of them if you cant see them on the snake is in the water as the snake will soak to ease the feeling of them |

Posted - 25/10/2011 : 22:35:22 Hi, someone else recently found bugs in bark substrate - http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6983
Often tiny critters like compost gnats, springtails and the like live in damp substrate and are harmless to the snake - are your bugs anything like the ones on this thread?
The dreaded mites are usually noticed first as black dots in the water bowl.
Hope it isn't mites and hope this helps. |
