Hey! I've heard different timings through different groups/forums,
How often do Ball pythons shed please?
Last was with his breeder 1.10.11 when he was 3 months old,
(hatch 30.6.2011)

Well, I didn't think I could add anything to what people have said ...they shed more often when they're small, when they're eating well/growing fast ...But last night ...
My Shiva, cb09, decent average weight for a male, good feeder still despite the time of year, had his last shed at the end of Oct, before I got him. Unless of course I made a mistake about the date. He's in lovely condition, settled in nicely, tucking into his rats - in fact he ate a small rat yesterday afternoon. He's been quiet and in view of the settling in period I haven't disturbed him much of course; at 3am today I got up for my usual insomniac prowl and he was out and ...covered in bits of stuck shed?????
I truly hadn't expected a shed from him for a month or two! So it was a case of damp a pillowcase and tuck him up in a rub inside the pillowcase for 20 minutes. He needed 2 goes as of course I'd done nothing about extra humidity, but soon came clear. He was such a good boy too, especially as he doesn't know me very well yet.
They do say that, with snakes, always expect the unexpected! |

my little leo seems to be a similar age to yours Sue, he's shed twice now - once within a week of getting him and he's just finished another about 2 days ago. He went for a couple of weeks without feeding when I first had him but now takes fuzzy mice every 5 days. After 4 regular feeds he went blue. My older ones that eat regularly seem to go thru a shed every 3mths so it seems to be linked to age as much as food. ;) |

The simple answer is never when you are expecting them to. I've tried to see if there is a pattern but as they get older its quite random and also dependant on lots of factors. Growth, damage, parasites, previous bad sheds can all affect the time until the next shed. Duke seems to just go blue so fast and unexpectedly, no warning, maybe I miss the early warning as he isn't out a lot but I'll go to get him out and he'll be all grey and staying still as possible, I've actually prodded him before because I thought he was dead, he soon hissed and let me know he was still alive though I nearly popped my clogs, he scared the life of of me. |

It varies from snake to snake, ours when they were little shed every 2 months or thereabouts, just depends how well they eat, as well as what they are eating, and grow at that age. |
