Posted - 30/11/2011 : 18:04:08 Yes, it sounds to be well away from the tailtip so unless it actually looks to be constricting the snake's body, which is unlikely, I'd leave him be till his next shed. |

Posted - 30/11/2011 : 17:11:20 The skin is round the skiny part just before were it goes fat it not on eye caps of tail so do you recommend for me just to leave it and wait for next sheD |

Posted - 30/11/2011 : 17:02:50 20-30 mins, make sure the rub is secure and best to stay in the room and supervise (though you may not see much action lol.) If skin seems still stuck, another session is a good idea - and always work gently from the head down, preferably with the damp pillowcase, bathing rather than rubbing (in fact never rub skin or pull at it at all hard but let the snake slide through your hands; it will often use your hands to shed against; they're very sensible.) But you will see a lot of skin already shed in the pillowcase.
However, if tailtip and eyecaps are off by now, I really wouldn't worry too much about any stuck shed a few days on, but at the onset of the next shed, up the humidity by putting the water bowl in the warm end or a damp flannel over the warm hide, and making sure all the stuck shed comes off with the new shed, as it probably will, fingers crossed. |

Posted - 28/11/2011 : 22:15:59 Hi, it's not stupid to ask that, but the snake with breathe fine. Make sure the rub's ventilated of course.
Snakes can actually hold their breath for a long time; my Ziska likes to sit in her water bowl ...with her head underwater, flicking her tongue!
But a snake in a damp pillowcase will get just as much ventilation as a snake in a dry one, which is how people often transport them.
good luck with the shed. |

That can't be a good idea surely. Bathing a snake is stressful but 3 times a day is not considerate to the snake at all.
The pillowcase technique is a good one as it does the job and been in the dark keeps them calm.
If its just a few bits that are not the eye caps or tail tip I'd just leave/put in a damp hide for a few days, immediate intervention isn't always required.
I've only ever seen one snake that has needed to have a bath, it was a 9 foot Burmese python that looked like it had exploded, I don't think one single piece of skin had come off, but ripped and cracked everywhere and then gone crispy.
You now know that increased humidity and damp hides are a must next time you see those tell tale signs, cranking the humidity right up for a week or two isn't going to do any harm. |

Posted - 24/11/2011 : 22:48:09 The best way i have found (from advice on this forum) is to put a damp cloth (or sock in my case) in the warm cave, the only problem is, is that he sheds so fast that i dont get to see it, and iv only had perfect sheds from using this method |

Posted - 24/11/2011 : 21:05:31 Main things are tailtip and eyecaps - and if the snake's shed a nice mask with eyes, make sure the little bubbles of eyecaps are actually there ...yours truly had a nasty shock and felt very guilty when snakey eventually needed help with retained eyecaps after it being assumed they'd come off ...mask was there with eyeholes but the eyecaps had stayed in place, oh, still feel awful!!!
In the meantime. Whatever the situation. Damp a pillowcase. Put snake into pillowcase and tie top tightly. Put into ventilated rub for 20-30 mins in warm room, supervised - and the damp and friction of snakey squirming will bring off a lot of stuck skin - quite miraculous, but just keep an eye on the specs and tail.
Hope this helps. |
