been reading a post about mites and as my royal aint eating it started to worry me Looking in her bowl i say little black dots but they look like flys she in her hide at moment and will look in morning to see if i can see any mites? Going to local rep store to get some fresh chips and to clean viv out.

Haha,panic over she ok throughly checked her over and dont think its mites also cleaned her viv out although it was pretty clean.

Good luck - and loads of royals have stopped eating now, as it's their mating season and their minds are on other things lol - my 2 girls won't look at a rat - they're waiting for their prince to come ...(Oops, should rephrase that ...)

As she not eating that also heightened my worry but Looked at her late last night when she was out and about and couldnt see anything,looks like flies, will clean viv out today still and put new birch chips in. thanks for the replies.

If so you have mites - but I hope not!!

Or do they look like tiny flies with visible legs and wings? If so they're probably compost gnats which are harmless. There are a load of other similar little critters, some wingless, springtails and so on, equally harmless, who all like damp bark and probably arrived with the bark, and are usually much faster moving than mites; if so you have no worries. Fingers crossed it isn't mites!
