Hi all genaral question but what's the qui kist way to defrost a mouse
I ushaly put it in a tub on top of rad for a few hours

I defrost mine in warm water, which only takes about 10 minutes, and then blast the nose with a hairdryer. I think when the rodents get much bigger I'll leave them to thaw out naturally for a few hours instead just to make sure they are completely defrosted.
This has just made me think though...what would actually happen if Mr mouse/ratty wasn't completely defrosted when a snake ate it? I'm assuming it would take longer to digest, but would there be any other negative side effects? (Obviously I plan to always defrost properly, I'm just asking out of curiosity!) |

I generally leave them to defrost naturally for a few hours then hold them for a few mins to get them warm`ish, but for quickness i have stuck them in a bag and put them in hot water. |

I take mine out and place them on top of Pandora's viv, she has a very large heat lamp and the top of the viv is always warm to the touch, leave them all day and feed at night or wee hours of the next morning |

it happens,I've had rats guts exploding in my defrost tub.Ie there whole in sides come out,and its just a total mess.
You don't no how long the shops had them for,plus being defrosted etc. |

i just get mine out in the morning and leave them on top of the viv, the snake room is quite warm so it doesnt take long for them. just lol'd my face off at the thought of randomly exploding rats! |

bob is correct,rodent explosion or turn into a gooey mess.best to defrost overnight,or for 4/5 hours before hand. |

i will have to keep an eye on it lol ,dont fancy emptying mouse guts away lol
was only looking for a quick way as i was thinking of feeding him tonight as hes 2 days overdue and didnt bother because he was about to shed.
but now he on the prowl as hes very very active,ive lernt thats when hes hungery lol

You need to be very careful with rats and radiators, quickly defrosted makes them slightly more likely to pop when constricted or just random rodent explosion if you leave them on the radiator too long, I just sit them out at room temperature for about 4-5 hours, moving them over the heat bulb for the last half hour to warm them up a bit. I wouldn't worry about the quickest way to defrost though, its far more important to do it properly. |

Sounds ok to me.
If the prey item's large, I like to defrost it in a plastic bag in the fridge overnight to make absolutely sure there are no ice crystals lurking. Then I bring it to room temp and give it a 30 second blast on the nose with a hairdryer, if it's to be fed to a royal. But some people prefer a same-day defrost as the prey has all its innards and stuff intact, and these can decompose very fast.
With smaller prey I do much the same as you - put it in a plastic bag on top of the fish tank (lid gets warm with lights) or in a sunny window or any warmish place.
