Hi guys, I just noticed the temp in the warm end of my viv dropping, and realised my royal was lying on the probes, the IR lamp was bright to bring temp up but obviously the probes were giving a false reading, can this be dangerous as it could get far too hot in there, anyone else have this prob? Any ideas how to prevent it?

Mine do the same, it's easier if you mount the probe to the middle as suggested but it's not too dangerous having it on the floor with a 60 watt bulb on full blast you'll struggle to get it over 40c which isn't enough to cook him or harm but obviously is too warm, normally the snake just moves off it, if not I move it myself when I notice it.

yup, my female was doing this a while back. i just moved the probe to a less travelled area and adjusted the stat to get the temps in the right range again.

one of mine an some other peoples snakes on here do this. the snakes tend to move once they get warm enough

I would say it was fairly dangerous, he could end up cooking him/her, I fit my stat probes out of the way sumwhere as already suggested I then ignore the figures on the star and just adjust it until I get the correct temps. If he/she were to lye on the probe long enough for it to get hot it would also bring the temps up in the cool end thus allowing no where for them to thermo regulate.

Hi im still fairly new to keeping snakes for pets, so take my advice with a pinch of salt, but your problem seems to be a very comon one with various snake owners. When i put together my 3ft viv with ir lamp and stat the instructions on the thermostate said to mount the probe in the middle of the back wall of the viv and about 8 inches down from the ceiling, ive done as the instructions sugested and have never had ant temprature issues. just a thought hope it helps.
