Hi,

Can anyone reccomend any good hides? I am currently using medium Exo terra ones but they are gettin too small, I have some large ones but they are a squat shape and alot bigger maybe too much bigger than mediums.

Thanks

I've used some really nice things for hides, such as hollow bamboo (got given it free in a florists where I'd tried to buy it; they had a couple of unusable offcuts) and seagrass boxes (£3 from Instore) but learned the hard way. If it's not plastic and has a bottom, sooner or later the snake will make a mess in it and the wee soaks in and the smell can't be eradicated. This doesn't matter with free cardboard boxes but my most beautiful bamboo has had to go into the garden ...the stench was horrendous!

now you say that bob, i bought xtra large exo hides but they are more like the large in which your describing and not that big

anyone got any pics of the various size exo terra hides?

@vinny exoterra hides are a very reasonable price at surrey pet supplies

The actual volume of the large isn't that much bigger than the medium its just flatter to create a sitting area on the top. I use the large and just push it into the substrate a bit so the substrate closes the gap a bit more then let Duke push the substrate back out and make it the size he wants.

There are plenty of large rodent hidey-holes out there that could work for a nice chunky snake
Eg: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jesper-Rabbit-Chinchilla-Guinea-42x15x30/dp/B000V6DMBC/ref=sr_1_6?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1324644607&sr=1-6

and my bull snake has one of these!

I have used a terra cotta pot, available at any hardware or gardening shop, cheap to buy. I cracked a piece out with a hammer, and used a Dremmel Tool to smooth the edges. They warm up nicely and also hold humidity :)

Depends on what you require re appearance etc. The snake will be happy with anything it can cram itself into - safe food quality boxes with NO sticky tape, such as pringles' tubes (washed) breadstick boxes, beer bottle boxes (good excuse for buying lol!)

More permanent and picturesque hides, try Surrey Pet Supplies - I think the cheapest are the 'trixie' range - AND they give measurements.

I'm running out of hides myself and am going to be doing some more salt dough hides, only I'll just be leaving them in their au naturel biscuity shades and varnishing. Recipe link below.
