Posted - 12/01/2012 : 00:42:17 I once asked my vet once my snake yawns when hes out and she said it might have something to do with smelling. He's probably trying to pick up more scent molecules from the surroundings ??? |

Posted - 11/01/2012 : 18:06:25 LOL - no, they just go for it!
Well, I have one who does strike, Ziska the gopher, but really they're headbutts or velcro butts lol, and the only time I took a serious feeding response bite from a royal, he honestly thought my hand was the rat, and just struck, bless him ...ouch!
I wouldn't see a yawning royal as a royal about to bite, though I may be wrong. |

Seriously, they usually yawn just after feeding, I understand to align their jaws - not surprisingly.
And I've seen them yawn before feeding as well ...well, the Jacobsen's organ is situated in the roof of a snake's mouth - yawning's going to enhance the scent of prey and its location.
And sometimes I think they yawn ...just because ...they wanna yawn ...lol.
Another favourite vid - snakes yawning are so cute!
