Right people. Just a quick one. I measured my male today, now he is offiicially male that is lol. And his name is Floyd. Anyway, when I got him just over a month ago at around two months old after settling in I weighed him, her weighed bang on 100g. And I weighed him today ( exactly a month later ) and he weighs 115g. I'm a bit concerned that a gain of 15g in a month isn't enough? I feed him a small mouse every 7 days and he eats fine. I attached a pic as I think he's looking healthy enough. Just wanted to know what advice you good people could give me. Thank you :) |

Posted - 24/01/2012 : 23:42:55 He's lovely but yes, if he's on small mice, then every 5 days. Mine is now on extra large mice every 7 days. Not got to the rats yet. |

Posted - 24/01/2012 : 14:26:16 Ok then bats, thank you. Next time I go shop I'll buy a few rat pups. And feed every five days. Like I said was just worried he hadn't grown enough. But I feel assured thanks to you good people :) |

Posted - 24/01/2012 : 00:53:56 Rat pups, according to one supplier, weigh 6g each; rat fluffs 19g - as you should feed 10/15% of the snake's weight could be a good idea to feed two pups atm - however Floyd will gain so much weight on rats, that you will soon find him needing a fluff. |

Posted - 23/01/2012 : 21:08:53 Wouldn't worry. Its good that he's gaining weight. Fed my first royal on mice every 7 days and felt she wasn't gaining a good weight. She had only put on 8 grams in about 3 weeks. So i moved her onto rats and fed every 5 days. Since then she's put on nearly 300g which was only 3/4 months ago. |

Posted - 23/01/2012 : 17:11:06 Cheers pal. I'll feed every 5 days for a while then. That seems to be how often everyone else feeds their young ones. And I'll weigh him again in a months time. Should be interesting. Getting another one Friday. So excited. My collection is starting to build up :)

Posted - 23/01/2012 : 16:53:59 As BATS mentioned I might be inclined to feed him every five days given how young he is, other than that everythings looking great mate, although there is always the eternal mice or rats debate, so if he were on rats he may have gained more but he my not have gained as much so if mice work for you long may it continue |

Posted - 23/01/2012 : 12:56:29 Slinky would be around 5 months old, had him 6wks. He is fed a small mouse every 5 days and gains 6-8g every feed.
Floyd looks well, so I wouldn't worry, he's a lovely little boy:) |

Posted - 23/01/2012 : 12:34:39 It's hard to tell as they can go in fits and starts - also he's gained 15% of his original bodyweight - that can't be bad. At that weight you'd be ok to feed every five days but he looks fine.
Sounds like he's doing ok to me and he looks nice and chunky for his size - love the name too! |
