Posted - 31/01/2012 : 23:55:24 Hi guys im just wondering how you feed your royals?
Do you feed on sets days or do you wait for them to be hungry?
usually i feed every wednesday, but im wondering if it would be better to wait an extra day or 2 each week so that he doesnt get lazy lol and actually hunts (so to speak)
he isnt ready to go up to a 14 day feeding regime yet
more than anything it would be nice to see him rather than him hiding away in his caves lol |

Posted - 01/02/2012 : 09:48:58 I can normally tell when mine are hungry, They come out for a stroll around the viv with a lot more menace in their stride. This is normally between 6 and 8 days between feeds. |

Posted - 01/02/2012 : 00:14:58 Hi, I go by Blackecho's feeding guide -
0 - 400g - feed every 5 days 400-800g - every 7 days 800-1200g - every 10 days 1200g+ - every 14 days
Feed 10/15% of snake's weight.
But - you have a spare rat a day or two ahead of schedule? So feed it to a handy snake. (Only I wouldn't feed LESS than 5 days apart for even the smallest snake as I reckon they need that 5 days to digest. And if the snake's feed has been anticipated by more than a day or so, then delay the next feed accordingly - you don't want an overfed snake.)
Conversely, if I had to delay feeding for a day or two, no harm. It will be fine.
Obviously hygiene checks and water changes still need to be carried out.
Hope this helps. |
