Posted - 30/03/2012 : 14:14:09 Hi all. Noticed the viv my Royal came with has not been silicone sealed.Just wondered if its neccessary and,if so,any idea how long I would have to leave her out of there for sealent to harden etc ? Many thanks Tony. |

Posted - 30/03/2012 : 15:08:59 Yes, you need some stuff called 'Geocel' - you can get it from Surrey Pet Supplies or an aquarium store. The smallest size is suitable for one viv.
If the viv isn't sealed, the snake wee will get into the joins and the wood will swell and stink. I do all floor and front panel joins and at least 3" up the side joins, but many people do all the joins. Down to personal preference.
The stuff stinks and the fumes are noxious! Have as many doors and windows open as possible, and keep the snake in another room, well away from the viv. Luckily after a good few hours' airing the smell dies down, but 48 hours after appilcation is needed for the sealant to cure and be safe for the snake to re-occupy the viv.
