Posted - 04/04/2012 : 12:46:39 Hi all
It was Kane's feeding day the other day and i warmed his dinner up with the hair dryer before i got him out and when i lifted his hide up he went nuts and shot for the door so i closed it before he got out but then he struck at the glass and it was quite hard! After that i noticed his nose went a funny colour...
There's pictures in here http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8717
Anyways, today I've just removed his hide to get him out and he looks a little blue and when i touched him he balled up (which he hasnt done since i got him) and for the first time ever he hissed at me but it whistled a little when he did it, its got me a little worried...
He only shed at the start of last week and it was a full shed from what i could tell. Any advice appreciated |

Posted - 05/04/2012 : 16:58:12 @BATS Yeah I purchased my batbox locally and stylishly decorated it with an old skool Batman logo. Lookin awesome :) And I bet your sister spent many a nights watching them bats do what they do best. I think I would be mesmerized if I had them living in my roof lol
@Austin I had a similar thing happen at Twycross Zoo! A bat hit me square between the eyes! Scared me half to death as it was in a pitxh black room and my eyes hadn't adapted to the light change lol Really pleased Kane is doing good. Thats always nice to read. |

Posted - 05/04/2012 : 13:51:45 Well it certainly was visible! Lol but its fading away now, he seemed happy enough climbing on everyone and everything.
My girlfriend was really worried about him and Frankie actually fighting! Lol they seemed fine to be near each other.
We went to chester zoo last year and the bat house was brilliant, i even had a bat fly into me! Lol |

@ Shad - A bat box? That's cool - maybe I should do that for mine. I love seeing them swoop overhead, and you can hear their wings rustling.
My sister lived in a house in Wales where there were bats in the ROOF - every summer evening there was a huge swarm of them as they woke up and came out to hunt. I never saw them myself but that must have been awesome ...
Congrats again about Kane, Austin. I don't know if this is an old wives' tale, but someone once told me that if there's bruising, it's healthier if it's visible, because if it goes inward, it doesn't heal as fast. But not entirely sure if that's true. But the lad certainly sounds to be on the mend. |

Posted - 04/04/2012 : 22:47:33 Hahaha thats some serious big bats right there! I'm also a lover of bats and where I live in Derby I'm surrounded by alot of open fields. So I have a batbox on the side of my house which I put up afew months back. And I'm fairly certain I've had afew visitors since doing so. I'm simply amazed by most animals outside of the 'norm' lol |

LOL - yeah I LOVE bats!
I live in a scruffy inner city area but sometimes when it's hot, there are bats, who come out to search for insects. (I joke that they're out of my belfry lol.)
In the meantime, here are some biiiig bats! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FK9tWT5pA4&feature=fvwrel&noredirect=1 |

Posted - 04/04/2012 : 20:07:19 Oh bless him. My corn snake did a similar thing many years ago.
It put her off her food for agood few weeks after. Glad he seems ok though. |

Posted - 04/04/2012 : 19:46:15 I think he's ok, he's a little stroppy and still marked but I've not had him out for a proper look yet. Thanks for asking though |

Posted - 04/04/2012 : 16:20:45 Ok i got worried cause he hissed, he's never hissed at me and he balled up which he doesn't do! I'd have just let him bite me of I'd have known he would end up being hurt, lol my poor guy |

Posted - 04/04/2012 : 14:59:10 I'd make an educated guess and say that he could well be going into premature shed because of the injury to his nose (if its skin's damaged, the snake will often slough it off before a shed is due) and the whistling noise could be loose skin obstructing a nostril. The poor guy probably doesn't feel very comfortable atm and it's not surprising he feel grumpy.
But might be a good idea to bring him out and try to take a quick look at him and any swelling or anything out of the ordinary, get him checked over by a vet, just to set your own mind at rest.
All the very best with him. |
