Posted - 30/05/2012 : 17:52:09 After last night's "eating the flip flop" incident I'm going to try Monty tonight, He normally becomes active around 10pm, am I better waiting for him to come out of his hide, or should I give it to him early evening?
Does it really matter?
Thanks |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 13:42:17 Sounds good, except Connie is currently MIA! I'll keep in mind when she returns from her travels though |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 13:32:41 Lol - yeah, forgot to say, in fact this is what I do all the time when I know a royal's fasting, and then ... if refused, the smaller rat goes to a willing colubrid. If you work his feed in with Connie's and he refuses again, the rat won't go to waste ... |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 12:10:47 Thanks Bats, I've got some large weaner rats that are about 40g, so I'll give him a go with one of them next week, something is better than nothing. I'll give him a weigh too just to make sure, but like his owner, I'm sure it'll do him no harm to lose a bit of girth! |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 12:06:20 Ah, I know - it's always a relief when a new snake feeds for the first time. That rat size is spot on according to the 'feed 10/15% of the royal's body weight' guide, but there's no harm in trying something a bit smaller; I find it sometimes gets my lot going when they're coming out of their fast. Good luck with the next feed! |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 11:47:36 That's my thoughts exactly bats, but it will be a relief when he takes his first feed from me, just so that I know he's happy. I left the rat in the viv overnight, and when I went in this morning he was happily slithering over it as though it wasn't even there, I think he filled himself up on flip flop!
I will try later next week, Also, is it worth trying something smaller? at the moment he's 1100g and I'm giving him approx 120g rats. |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 18:44:47 I do Lincs, but all of them are so laid back..and seek somewhere warm on us..feet seem to be the firm favourite. Slinky had a nose around then ducked under the throw and raced down to curl around Kit's toes and that's where is right now :) He moved into his new apartment last night, and feeding day tomorrow so we'll see if he takes. |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 18:23:20 I feed my clan at anytime from morning to early eve. I take them out for maybe an hour on the sofa, then into their feeding tub for a mouse. They strike and eat well, so for me time of day is never an issue :) |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 18:00:26 I used to think it didnt matter but with Frankie the only way she will strike feed is if I try feeding when it's the evening and quite dark in the room but all are different so it's best just trying to find out works best for him or leave it outside his hide and put a towel over his viv.
I'm sure someone will have some better advice. |

Posted - 30/05/2012 : 17:58:00 personally i have always fed around half 6/7. my lights in the vivs go out at 8. i pretty much know straight away if they are going to eat as they come out of hiding within a couple of mins of me holding the rat in the viv |
