Has anyone ever noticed a whistling/hissing kinda noise as their snake is swallowing their food? Just been feeding Kane is rat and as he was swallowing it he kept making that noise, i had him out earlier this morning and there was no noise coming from him then.

I've seen that video before, I've tried finding that before while they've eaten but never can.

Feel better now though. I always worry a little when he makes a whistling sound.

Indeed, if they ever loll onto one side when eating have a look right at the front of their mouths on the underside you will see it sticking out, not much just enough to breathe.

A brilliant video, I really must order this series

Ahh thanks :) I've heard the noise before and always wondered what on earth it was.

Yet another thing that makes snake's so fascinating!

Oh well there you go
Lotabob Posted - 19/06/2012 : 22:48:56
Its the glottis on the underside of the mouth, they stick it out like a snorkel so they can still breath with a gob full of rodent. A snakes glottis is closed unless air is moving through it and I have heard it squeak and hiss as it opens to breathe in or out.

Its amazing how many noises a silent animal can make.

He's not shed for weeks. Fingers crossed it is just air then.

Like I said he wasn't making any noise at all this morning.

Has he shed recently
I have never heard my lot do it when they feed
Maybe the air coming out or the rat ?
