ok, so Sas is a comfy bug. When I get him out during the day or evening he gets inside my sweatshirt or whatever else im wearing, and goes to sleep. It's like wearing a belt! He quite happily stays there for however long I have him out for. Boris on the other hand is constantly in motion. Thoughts please x

To be fair I've never been struck by a boa, only nipped. Not sure how painful it would be if they threw that weight behind them and held on :/

I have 2 snakes that like to 'cuddle' under my clothes. My Corn snake likes it up sleeves wrapped round the arm and my adult lesser royal likes to sit underneath my bust round the bra line! I have to keep her out of my top when we have visitors! LOL

Kelfezond! What can I say? You are a legend Sir! Haha! I'm sure my face looked just as bad when I first got bitten by a Boa though, I jumped like a *bleep*. Wasn't my snake so at least I didn't have to handle it again! My own little Honduran BCI is a bitey little so and so though, got me on the face a while back!

Cookie in my experience Boa bites are not so bad but they can make you jump!

ROFPML. Thanks for posting the link to Kelfs bite. Definitely a picture that needs reviving every now and again and again.

Sez in my Python book that too much handling can stop them feeding. Mine is pretty good to handle, so I keep it down to about 10 minutes.

The last night I had him out I nearly had my watch embedded into my arm and the veins in my hand looked like they were going to explode!! lol... well whether or not he tames, he'll be staying cuz I love him all the same regardless if its mutual or not lol. Have any of you guys been bit by a Boa yet? Heard its one hell of a bite!
Lotabob Posted - 16/07/2012 : 21:55:34
Yeah Cookie sounds like a Boa to me lol. They do grip tightly when you hold them but thats them being scared of falling, try supporting more of his body and he should loosen his grip. You'd know if he was constricting you though, totally different ball game to holding on. I've heard bones breaking when Sanke constricts rats, big cracking noises, that takes a heck of a lot of pressure as rodent bones are bendy.

Yeah, Im not exactly 'handling' Sas when he is out for ages. My clothes are lol. I only have Boris out for about 15 mins cos he is still settling with me. I do try and get them both out every day though. Failing that I usually lift their houses and give them a quick stroke.

Depends on the snake Cookie you should be able to tell when he/she has had enough, some people I know have hour long sessions I'll normally have 10-20 minutes
Cookie Posted - 12/07/2012 : 15:55:41
What would you guys say is too much handling?? I only ever take them out for maybe 15 minutes at a time per day, is this ok?

Royals are hiding snakes, so if they get even a slight hint of somewhere warm and dark to hide that they consider safe then they will go there. Duke likes to curl up under the cushions on the sofa. Some do just seem to roam though, it may be partly that they dont consider themselves safe to keep moving or just that they are having a look around. As long as they aren't appearing distressed or unmanageably wiggly then they are/should be fine been out.
