just picked up my new carpet python.
i think he is a costal carpet an is due to shed but unfortunately the shed got a little torn while getting him out of his old viv but have given the viv a good mist so hopefully he will get it all off himself as he is a bit bitey so would be interesting if i have to help him out.
anyway some pic's of him
did get nipped a couple of time's but he only drew a little blood

being sort of calm

and not quite so happy

thank's im very happy that he has calmed down so quickly.
he is going to want a viv upgrade before long, it's deceiving how long he actually is

Wow

The progress you've made with your coastal is amazing, hats off to you for you're perseverance. He's starting to colour up nicely too

Well done again

the little carpet is taming down very well an he no longer seem's bothered when im in the room.
last few time's ive had him out he hasn't bitten at all so decided to take the glove's off today well after i got him out an he was fine he's more nervous than anything but very inquisitive

i enjoy the challenge of taming them, took me a good 8 month's or so to get the tai beauty snake i had to the point where i could free handle her for short period's

Good job on calming down your pet staple gun It's gonna be all the more rewarding when you do get him calmed down

The beautiful ones are always the most difficult ;)

little update on the new carpet python.
he has been feeding no problem but turn's out the hook is no good for getting him out as he would climb straight up an go for my hand

this was interesting getting him off without getting tagged

i have been handling him every day apart from after a feed with glove's on just to stop him tagging my finger's but he is calming down very well, didn't tag the glove's at all when i got him out last night but did tag them after he had been out for about 10 minute's.
hopefully before long i wont need the glove's while handling him

Thanks all.
Yea he is very alert and assumes the strike position soon as he sees me in the room, yes the afrock tag is going to hurt when he gets me lucky the tags from the carpet dont really hurt.
He is due a feed so will defrost him a rat later then will make a handling/biting video of him in a couple of days
Baobab Posted - 30/04/2013 : 12:03:13
Lovely looking guy. Love the picture of him wrapped around the log and ready to strike. I'd take a hundred tags from him than one from your afrock.

a lovely carpet to be sure, but he's a feisty one lol at least for now.
herriotfan Posted - 30/04/2013 : 09:16:44
Looks very menacing to me!!
JanieW Posted - 30/04/2013 : 08:51:46
lol they don't miss much, if I put the scoop in with Pip he appears from his hide and he watches, follows and pounces on it like a cat. I had him out last night, he never bitten since the day in the pet shop..yet lol
chrisc Posted - 30/04/2013 : 06:07:35
he has a good strike range for a little snake, could easily tag me from a foot away.
he has always been a been a bitey one while at the rescue center but should tame down with regular handling.
he shed an crapped last night so got some pic's after cleaning/checking him

and this is the thank's i get for cleaning his viv

Awesome little guy. He's just a scared little guy. Could you not nip him back. See how he likes it lol

Haha, nice pick up. That's some 'come closer if you dare' stare.
