Posted - 08/06/2013 : 09:01:24 Last night it was feeding day for the big 3..Two Retics and a Burm.
Sally the Burm has just one eye so she tends to miss, but I opened the small feeding hatch, and of course she knew what was coming and periscoped..anyway I introduced her mouse and she missed the first time, but soon found it. Gala is a good girl and ate with no issues.
Now for Saru..I placed his feeding mat into his viv with no problem..I place it at his warm end, the furthest from his favourite hide lol.
After waiting for him to calm down and return to his hide, I warmed his rat and holding it in long feeding tongs slid the door open just wide enough to get the rat dangling. Sure enough Saru was more than ready and launched wildly, he completely missed the rat but sank his teeth into the bulb guard, mouth wide open. Fortunately he released with no major issues..2nd Strike he lunged across the viv and missed again so I dropped the rat on his mat.
In future he gets fed on the mat, no more strike feeds.
When no food around he's a real sweetie but oh boy when he awaits his meal he is a different snake altogether lol |

Posted - 08/06/2013 : 20:50:44 byron can have a proper mental feeding response when he is hungry, ive now started drop feeding him as the last time he missed my hand by about 1/2" when he shot straight over the rat, then struck the floor and then the water bowl before hitting the rat |

Posted - 08/06/2013 : 14:52:42 Yeah in future drop feeding. I don't think he targeted the heat source lol he saw me dangle the rat and launched wildly and went straight past with his mouth open ready to strike..he struck but not his rat lol
I think I said in my original post fed on mat in future :) |

Posted - 08/06/2013 : 11:47:38 Also something I do with Pandora now is place her guinea pig on the ground infront of her then push said pig towards her with a long snake hook - sometimes when she's in feed mode I litterally just throw the pig into the viv so it lands just infront of her head - she'll normally strike it and constrict instantly |

Posted - 08/06/2013 : 11:35:56 I always feed in the cool end stops them targeting the heat source |
