heya ppl! my bf is planing on geting me a snake for xmas (hes very late i no lol) an i was looking at jungle carpet pythons! if any1 could tell me a bit more bout them i wud b gratefull! like how hard they are to keep and what their lik as pets! any info wud b g8 |

superb snakes, best snakes in my collection by far, wish I had started with Carpets in the first place. If you are a confident person around snakes I can't see a problem, if not, then it's up to you whether you think you can tuff out a few months of "taming" |

They are great...
As above really. The set up and husbandry is quite simple as far as snakes go. They are on show, normally chilling on a branch about 90% of the time which makes them a great display snake. They can be snappy when young so you need to be confident and not worry about the occasional bite.

Most carpets are very defensive (snappy/jumpy) when young. The experienced breeders I've spoken to about them say that they do tend to calm down as they mature and get used to you and become really nice pets. My baby jungle jag is super-defensive and will strike at anything that comes within striking distance of him. Not that a bite would hurt from a baby, but the speed of the movement can be unnerving and cause you to flinch. Mine still makes my heart race a bit when I handle him and he suddenly snaps towards my face! Even though I know he can't reach me it makes me jump. Royals are lovely snakes... very placid and friendly (and curious too once they've gained a bit of confidence).
However, if it's a carpet you want then I would suggest that you speak to some breeders and go and have a handle of some of their babies and adults. Get a proper feel for them.
You could always rehome a tame adult if you don't want a snappy baby! |

with their size and temperament i'd not recommend them to a novice keeper although their actual husbandry/set-up requirements aren't complcated or technical.......... |
