.....you can still get caught out....

As u all kno i got my second boa not so long ago . advertised by the seller as under 2 foot and a dwarf... went to pick her up and noticed she was no way near the 2 foot mark . got her home and did a rough measure up shes 3 foot and around 4 -5 inches....so i got back to the seller to double check that she was a dwarf . yes yes definately he said . i also wanted a birth date for her or a rough date in 09 which he didnt have . so i contacted marc norrie who she was bred by and asked him and found out alot more .
Shes not a dwarf , however the parents were 5 foot and 6 foot . so aslong as she is fed responsibly she wont get huge .
so it seems the seller was a little selective on the truth . i dont mind as i wouldnt change her for the world and have enough space for when shes bigger . i just thought i would share as it seems the term "dwarf" is very loose , so becareful and do ur research.....

i contacted marc norrie who originally bred her and he cleared everything up for us . the seller had us duped on 2 accounts really , i feel slightly angry i suppose . however her dad was 5 foot and her mom 6 foot , and at 2, shes 3 foot , whereas alot of commons are normally around 4.5 foot in their first year or so . we sat down when sarah got home from work and talked about it and we have the space to accomodate her and shes pretty easy to handle at the moment , so we arent going to rehome her , we will just change our plans on how we would have kept her thinking she was a dwarf . i dont really want to keep passing her along , we will commit to giving her the best care possible and take all the precautions and show her the respect we would to any large snake .
haha bob its funny we all joked when i said i wanted a boa , tell the missus its a dwarf 3 years down the line "woops , what a big snake we have" just goes to show becareul what u wish for eh ? shes a big softy , i just thought i would share this for other buyers to be wary .

Oh yeah Laws, that old chestnut, lol, you wanted a Boa we say throw around the word dwarf and you'll get your own way.

Only kidding that is really bad, for such a well known Boa personage to mis-sell a snake that is going to need specialist planning for potentially a 9 foot + female Boa Constrictor. Think Kelf's Pandora, she is a normal BCI, as much as you love lexi you will really need to decide sooner rather than later if you will be able to cope with the potential of a snake that size, its a sad truth that rehoming her now is going to be far easier than when she hits 8 foot and your unable to lift her. Nobody here would judge you if you decided it was too much to take on (I would have no choice but to rehome).

I think kelf is one of the few sellers who has been honest about the heritage of their snakes. Generally speaking, its a sellers market so be prepared to hear what you want to hear but disregard the majority.

Unfortunately Laws there are folks out there that know how to sell animals with wrong descriptions and use nice words like dwarf to help along the way.

Well done for searching out the truth though

Hmm, not so much as a boa constrictor imperator as a boa caveat emptor eh?

Sorry - not funny! That is really disgusting, but of course you love her by now and wouldn't want to part with her. At least you've found out her heritage, and you and Sarah will get used to her gradually and be able to share handling, but yes, a useful warning to those of us who may want to buy a large(ish) snake in future and who need to know its growth potential.

As to the vendor - well, that is plain bad boa-haviour!!
