i was looking for a bit of advice with regard to insurance for my snake, we have no herp vet in our area and the closest is a 120 mile round trip for us with a £170 fee straight out, we are looking into getting insurance for her but dont really know where to start or who is the best etc, any reccomendations

I remember discussing insurance a while back on the cornsnake forum, I was considering insuring my exotic animals but then one poster fully convinced me it just isn't worth it in most cases. He lept LOTS of animals (sorry if its you, I can't remember who it was) and he said in the many years of keeping snakes he has only ever spent £8 at the vets.

I decided that as I have assets available should the worse happen to my animals i have the money available to treat them long term but as well as that as I dont fancy having to free up money etc I would put money aside every month for all my animals dog included and stick it into a savings account, that way its not see you later, lining some bankers pocket but rather lining my pocket, then if the worse happens I can pay it from the pot if not the pot earns me interest.

and the quote i got for a year was ruffly £80 cheaper than one call out for u there is an exess fee but only about 30 pound but depending on the cover you want NOTE if your snake is ill or been ill in last few months eg 2-3 months they may refuse you cover

ive found an insurance for her which costs £115 per year and pays out up to £1000 in vet fees per year, our local herp vet only asks that the excess (£35) is paid to them then they see to the rest, they just invoice the insurance company,

Yeah it's not so much the cost over many many years. It's the cost per year.

All im going to say is,Really look into it.Our local vet isn't bad and only charged us £50 for an emergency call out.

We had it on two dogs and the parrot,It was costing more then if we had taken the dogs to the vets five times a month. Then theres the part of trying to claim money back

Not sure about snakes etc,But the parrot they wouldn't insure.Had to go to a parrot only insurance company.
