Posted - 25/07/2010 : 18:30:32 Well, thought it was about time I got some more pics of Bruce up here, so here's a few taken over the last few days. They demonstrate, I think, his two main obsessions for branch climbing & water bowl dipping.
I'll also apologise now as compared to some of the wonderful high quality & well shot photos posted by a lot of you guys my little point and shoot attempts under the viv lighting are pretty poor and don't show Bruce to his full glory.
I've decided I like this photo on the basis his markings remind me of beer can ring pull tabs
A bit of branch posing
Zooming out however reveals that most of his body isn't actually on the branch
Yes, Mr Bruce does like a good soak.
This pic was taken after a tank clean, which cause him to reinvestigate every nook and cranny in his viv. Maybe the aspen was just a bit bright for him.
And some pics from feeding yesterday. When taking his pre-rat mouse, Bruce likes to make double sure there is no sign of breathing by drowning as well as constricting:
He still takes his time deciding which end is best to feed from and working his way along:
But he makes his decision and gets down to business eventually:
And that's it for now. Thanks for taking a peek and hope you enjoyed. I think I will get some handling pics at some point to get some size context

Thank you. And oh yes on the clothes front! I've had him tangled in my hair, up a sleeve (and then out a hole in the elbow), wrapped round the rbbbon lacing of my skirt - he's a little explorer-snake! |

Hmmm... well, when I weighed him a month or so ago he was coming in at 250g if that helps give perspective. He's definitely on a growth spurt so I'll weigh him again (and now he's happier with handling will measure him also) after this shed for a more up to date idea. I'll let you know if you want for comparison...
Well, Bruce finally emerged from his moss hide looking very glossy and well shed. So I got him out for a weigh & measure and a quick handling session. He's weighing in at 280g and about 25-26" long.
Here are a couple of pics taken by the other half during this handling session (please excuse the poor focus - camera wasn't playing ball) if it helps give some more size perspective against my girly hands
Who needs a bracelet, eh?
Getting bored of my hands at this point...
...And up we go (note I now roll up my sleeves as Bruce does like to explore the innards of my clothing otherwise, lol)
...And back down the alternative route!

Bearing in mind I've had to guess at at age and that I haven't bothered having him sexed so 'he' may be a female too, I wouldn't be too surprised if your girl is spot on for her age and I'm just being misleading |

i keep trying to find a place to get wood like that, i love it, at my local i can hides from that type of wood, but not branches and logs
I wonder if you could go out to a local forest and find some of your own? I'm sure that as long as you either bake or freeze it to kill off any unwanted bacteria and sand any overly abrasive bits it would be fine. I wonder if anybody on the forum has done this before?

Bruce is gorgeous! And as mentioned above, I love his setup. But the funniest part was your commentary on each pic. I love to see people enjoying their pets and providing them with lots of love, and from the looks of it, Bruce is very well loved. Great pictures and wonderful snake!
Thank you most kindly - on both the Bruce and commentary compliments! I'm not a kid person but I am an animal nut, and it doesn't matter whether it's a cat, dog, rat, fish or snake, I feel strangely privileged to live in a world where I can share my life with them and treasure every moment. That sounds really cheesy, doesn't it, lol, but its true! |

Nice pics there .
Thank you! I was having terrible issues setting up my little compact digital not to over contrast with the viv lighting (but of course didn't want to turn it off and have to use the flash while poor Bruce was trying to scoff) so am pleased any came out viewable

May I ask what age the snake is?
Of course you can. I have no qualms in saying I bought him from a store who weren't actually able to tell me very much about him and was actually asking the "My snake weighs XXX and measures XXX how old do you think he is?" question on here not long ago. It was BlackEcho who suggested probably a late CB09.

bruce is stunning, i love his setup, where did u get them branches from, they are gorgeous
Awww - thanks Danny! His setup has been a working progress. The large piece of wood by his water bowl I fell in love with while browsing in 'Predators' (a reptile shop located in Shipley, Bradford). The climbing vines are by Exo Terra Reptile Bendable which I ordered from Net-Pet-Shop here (size medium): http://www.netpetshop.co.uk/p-26316-exo-terra-reptile-bendable-terrarium-jungle-vine.aspx
