Not so worried now, had the temp checked again and the hot side is now up to 31.6 degrees, and cold side at approx 20 degrees. THis gives me some time to sort out a new home with the right equipment. :D

Thats no good, you are aiming for ~32*C. How are you measuring the temps? If you are keeping the glass tank for now, you defiantly need to add more cover. Slightly scrunched up newspaper works better than any expensive fake plant.

I have the matt and stat on the underside of the glass, the glass is getting to approx 28 degrees on the hot side of the viv. but on the surface of the beech chips it is approx 21 degrees. He seems fine so far, plenty of moving about, and not really hiding in either the hot or cold side hides.

I would probably opt for a large faunarium and eventually a 3' viv, but I'm not sure how big your pastel is.

A glass tank should be heated no problem with a mat. How have you set up your stat? And how are you measuring it?

As Welly said, mice are fine, though I would be trying to change it onto rats of the equivalent size.

You would eventually need a 3 foot. If you got a 3 foot now you can always section part of it off. But you could always get a smaller one for now.
Wood would (see what i did there!) be the material of choice.

Yup, mice are fine

What would be the recommended Viv size/material for my Royal?? and should it be still on Large mice once a week at 4 months??

From experience a Heat mat won't warm up properly in a glass tank. The glass sap's the heat away to quick. Put a wooden base in and it should rise properly. Or a wooden Viv

Very pretty pastel, not sure I would go with that housing method myself though. Don't jump to change it mind, see how you get on, but most would consider it to open for a royal.
