Posted - 04/01/2012 : 09:51:34 Sorry I'm posting off topic again, but just to update. Nimrod took his first rat pup last night :) decided the weaner was a tad too big for him.
What a strike and coil!! Wish I'd have filmed it. We were expecting him not to take an interest, as he'd been feeding on mice but he was straight in for the kill.
Happy mum and dad :) |

Posted - 02/01/2012 : 20:32:33 So update ... Just weighed him and he's bang on 300g so there's no way these mice fluffs are sufficient enough for him.
Will pop out tomorrow and perhaps try him on a rat weaner as you suggested. Gotta give my boy some good grub!!! |

Posted - 02/01/2012 : 20:13:22 No he's on mice at the moment as this is what they were feeding him at the shop.
Suppose we could try a rat fluff, he's a pretty big boy in comparison to his food ... Just didn't want to change things as he's been feeding ok since, and we wanted him to settle in well at home.

Posted - 02/01/2012 : 18:23:13 Hi, you mean rat fluffs?
It's safe to feed a rat whose girth is no bigger than the royal's, or else you can judge prey size and feeding intervals by weight:-
0-400g - feed every 5 days 400-800g - feed every 7 days 800-1200g - feed every 10 days 1200g+ - every 2 weeks.
Feed 10/15% of the royal's bodyweight.
A rat fluff, according to one of my suppliers, weighs 19g, a small rat weaner, 37g, a medium weaner 45g, but you can always ask for the rodent to be weighed at the shop if in doubt. Hope this helps. |

Just a question, he's eating fluffs at the moment, but they seem so tiny for him. Do you think it would be ok to move him onto the next size so soon or should we let him feed a few more times?? |
