A heat mat won't provide an ambient temp, I'm afraid, and with an older and heavier royal, if the mat is in the enclosure with the snake, there can be the danger of thermal blocking and burning. Royals are better off with an overhead heat source such as infra red or ceramic (statted and guarded of course.) And the overhead heat source will provide you with a perfect ambient temp.

Cherrs everyone :)

I now have a problem, I don't think the ambient temp is rite.
He has a 30 w heat mate and that's at rite temp ( 30-33 c)
Cold side sits between 18 and 20c but the ambient is onlyabout 20-21c
Any ideas?

I reckon this range is pretty good value and they give you dimensions too -

Otherwise I've had fun making these, and they're very cheap -

Hope this helps.
