Posted - 06/06/2012 : 15:31:56 Today was an excellent example of homo-regius cooperation.
It's quite simple. She needed to poo. I was aware of this by the large lump in her behind as seen below.
Now there are three ways we can go about this. Either she can go in house on the carpet (substrate) and I'll have to clean it up. Or she can go on the sofa (parents will be mad again haha) or perhaps we could work together and she could go... in the toilet.
First of all, a relaxing soak in the bath (water heated to precisely 32 degrees, just how she likes it).
Sooner or later, I'm gonna have to go in the tub aren't I? I mean I'm not gonna be this size for ever...
We took some photos, possibly for her new facebook profile pic
Especially like the reflection in this one and the one above, considering it was with my phone.
And now, for the royal dumping! First she dried off in her towel while I held her patiently. Toilet seat lid was up in preparation. While holding her I heard a loud bubbly fart and quickly opened up the towel around her rear end and positioned her over the edge of the toilet. I missed a few drops of pee but that's what the towel was for.
Hnnng!
And log two of two
Ahhhhhh
Pull the flush, towel in the washing machine, quick royal rinse in the basin, dry off on my towel (must remember to keep two towels ready next time) and back in the viv.
Job done. No mess, no clean of viv needed and no bad smell in my bedroom.
And now that she's empty, a quick weigh. 425 grams. Excellent, that's exactly 50 grams in exactly a month.
Here's a photo of her weight graph
Note: She is a very chilled out snake. Not everybody's royal is so chilled out about taking a bath. I'm lucky in that I know she's not going to get stressed out by it. BE CAREFUL in the bathroom. I know what she's like, whatever happens don't let them fall in the loo as they can potentially go down and get lost forever. Use the bath tub if in doubt though for most people I wouldn't recommend this, just let them drop the royal log in the viv and clean it up in your own time!
Hope you enjoyed! |

Posted - 24/06/2012 : 11:20:48 I find they often poo when they shed, but if they're really full like in the first photo they can poo at any given time... which is why I like to get it out of the way in controlled circumstances rather than having it happen when she's being handled.

Anytime, It can vary depending on whether the royal is ready or not. Don't worry. ;) |

Posted - 09/06/2012 : 16:44:52 Great pics. Isnt it funny how we all take poo in our stride (so to speak lol) I have 4 cats (5 at one time)who use a litter tray and a son who quite frankly could be a world record holder in that department! Ive seen (and smelled) it all! |

Posted - 08/06/2012 : 23:28:47 Great post!! Poo doesn't bother me - got two children, I've seen more poo over the last 8 years than I care to remember! lol
I'm well impressed that you managed to hold the snake and take pics without dropping your little lady in the loo!!

Posted - 08/06/2012 : 14:42:10 Thanks guys! At least now I can have her safely on my person without worrying about her staining my clothes lol. My grandfather just met her for the second time today. After the fuss he put up at her arrival his initial remark was, 'you mean to say it's still alive? Oh God...' however in the course of a few hours she has worked her magic on him and he's starting to get won over... not that he'll admit it lol |

Posted - 08/06/2012 : 13:00:57 Great pics! I think they are so funny! I had a Kingsnake do this in the tub, accompanied by a lot of bubbles, and noise that rivals my 12 year old son :) |

Posted - 07/06/2012 : 22:55:07 I have never laughed so much from reading a post in my life. :D That was hilariously funny and major kudos to you for "toilet-training" your snake. ;) Excellent pics (perhaps a little too excellent in some...ewwww! ;) ) and a great snake. I have no doubt that she feels a lot better now, though. :P |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 23:16:06 Yeah wish my corns would go in the bog - the inventive places THEY choose lol!
To say nothing of the cats - the other day I found Finn, my elderly tomcat, with his front end in the downstairs tray. Then I heard a resounding fart. He had his front paws in the litter hadn't he? All was well.
Oh no it wasn't ... |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 20:39:31 Hodgie I let her have a bath in the sink, if you re-read my post you'll see that she actually crapped in the toilet where I crap every day! Can be deceptive though, they're both the same horrible green colour! |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 20:11:33 sorry, but why would you want to have your snakes crap in your sink where you wash yourself everyday? |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 18:09:30 LOL - yeah same here Frambo - have had cats all my life and trays of course - you do get used to *hit shovelling, but royal python crap still amazes me after almost 2 years, and as for training her to use the bog, sort of royal command performance ...? |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 18:05:05 Haha when you have a dog who drops 3 a day you get used to turds quite quickly lol. It's really fascinating to see the vent opening and then lump get pushed out and then appear as a turd. Her tail was ridiculously thin afterwards. It's like eating in reverse! |
