i`ve had my 3 year old male royal for 3 days now and i`m iching to handle him! but how long should i leave him alone to settle into his new viv before i can handle |

Hissing = leave me alone
Biting = leave me alone
Balling = leave me alone

Oscar doesn't poo often so I feed him then leave him 36 hours (48 is too long for me hehe)
I just find snakes quite hard to 'read' but think he must be generally content |

I must admitt i only left my kahn for 2 days. But hes so realaxed and is feeding perfect so i guess it all deoends on there temperament. |

To be honest i tend not to bother leaving them for a week, any new snakes get offered a feed the day after i get them an if they feed i start handling after they have digested |

When I got my royal last year. I handled him after a couple of days of him arriving. And he's only ever missed one feed. Maybe all RP are different. |

So generally how often should I get Oscar out? Been looking through old threads to try get an idea.
I generally get him out every two days, sometimes a quick cuddle, sometimes for 20 mins or so. He's fairly laid back but does head for the settee to go under it when I let him roam. He doesn't ball up and he doesn't really stay still. I just like messing with him |

Your pretty lucky to have an active royal then. I only see mine for a short time during dusk hours. |

When I got my corn, it hissed at me the first time I went in to change the water, but was settled within a week and I was handling it after the first feed.
My Royal was different, I went in to change his water after the first day and he was out and about exploring, he was watching what I was doing and when I finished I went to touch him and he seemed totally calm. So I just started handling him straight away. He hadnt missed a feed for a year and a half until last week.... DOH!! |

I got a Spider royal on Thursday, and it fed on Saturday (was overdue a feed). Although I know Spiders are great feeders in general, I still wont be handling him until he's had atleast 3 feeds with me. A couple of weeks is nothing out of the snakes life span.
Also I never had a proper handling session with my Pastel for over 6 months, because she just wouldn't eat. I really think handling should only be done when the snake is feeding consistently. Handling will stress a new snake out to the max, which usually means it won't feed. |

ha ha i like it well he refused his feed on friday  so does handling of new royals based around when they start feeding or weeks owned?? |

I normally leave it one feed, three is probably better but I'm inpatient. You can kind of sneak a little hold here and there though when you're cleaning or water changing etc. (although you didn't hear that from me ;) |
