Posted - 16/12/2012 : 14:47:51 Ladies & Gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Noodle, our new pastel Royal.
We picked him up today, weighed him at 104g and then introduced him to his new home. After sitting still for a couple of minutes just to make sure he wasn't going to get eaten, he wandered off and is currently sitting at the highest point of the viv, putting paid to the myth that Royals don't like to climb!!!
Here are a couple of pictures of the little chap, he's in blue at the moment so he's not showing his true colours.

We're not sure if he's a girl or a boy yet (he's been notionally sexed as a boy) but we'll take him to be probed in six months or so. |

Posted - 17/12/2012 : 03:48:31 If his eyes are really opaque, he is about mid shed. Opaque means "not see through". ;) If his eyes have a bluish cast, then he's probably about midway through his shed. If they are completely clear, then there's a good chance you only have a day or two (maybe even less) to go. :D |

Posted - 16/12/2012 : 19:57:33 Excellent, his eyes are really opaque at the moment so I guess he's just about ready to shed. We can't find sight nor sound of him at the moment so I would guess he's found the moss box! |

Thanks very much guys! Incidentally, how long does a shed usually take and how often do they shed?
First, congrats on your new Pastel. :) (S)he's a cutie! Shedding takes around a week to two weeks to complete (some go faster than others). They will turn opaque (blue), then go completely clear again for a few days before they shed their skin. It is imperative that you provide a little bit higher moisture during this time, as it will help aid your Royal in shedding the skin fully and easily. Smaller Royals shed more often than larger ones. My babies shed just about once a month, but my bigger ones go several months between sheds. Looking forward to seeing pics of your baby once the shed is complete! |
