Where I live we have no decent reptile places around for nearly 30+ miles and it's driving me insane!!! I live in Burnham on sea and nearest reptile place is nearly 30miles away (Bristol) !!

It just so happens this weekend a ceramic bulb went so was without heat and yes I know school boy error I should have had a spare but I didn't so was left with trying to find one locally, that left me with the local garden centres!! First I looked online to check prices and it was approx £18 but 3-4 days delivery but was disgusted to c the garden centres selling them for roughly £30 because they know they have the monopoly of it!!

What I want to know is do u use the Internet because it's cheap or because it's easier??

Would u pay a little bit extra from Internet prices to buy from a local reptile shop?? Or is it all about the cost??

Asking because I strongly considering Looking into setting up a shop round my local area and wanted to test the water with u experts!!

Thanks in advance

i use my local shop mainly because its nice to chat to someone with the same interest. he's quite decently priced and i like to support the local shops. id be gutted if the internet drove them under.

Yeah my mate was telling me about that down where rock gardens used to be and the fancy dress shop I will have a look there!! :-) still frustrating tho as I wanna maybe have a go at opening one but it seems as with most retail the Internet wins :-(

im in somerset too and get everything on line mainly due to the price difference pluss the fact that there are no decent shops here. the only decent one that was in locking shut last year, i did used to get my rats there and they were lovely people.

i believe there is a newish rep shop in weston, don't know the name or what road its on (not much help) but not been there myself so don't know what its like

I have a few rep shops near me, but I travel 20 miles to Dagenham, Essex for my normal stuff. Dave (the owner) always keeps you chatting for an hour or more and as a full time breeder also he is full of real solid advice. Sometimes paying that little bit extra is worth it.

I have 2 spare ceramics and a spare stat.

i usually buy my rat's, aspen an a few other thing's from my local shop's but other things's i buy from ebay as it's cheaper an easy.

i keep spare ceramic's as i point blank refuse to pay £30 or £40 for a bulb when i can get a 150w on ebay for £10

I live 'out in the sticks' so I don't really have any close places to shop.
I do mine online. It saves fuel costs and a second trip if there's no stock of what I went for!
I've used Swell Reptiles a number of times and find them very good.
I'm also sure if I went into the reptile places I'd come out with another 'addition' to explain away!!!

can you recommend a online shop for vivs
Leucistic Posted - 07/01/2013 : 13:22:54
I buy big stuff like viv's etc off line as price is radically different.

But all the smaller stuff (bulbs, food, water dishes, cleaning stuff etc) I get from my local reptile shop as they have been great help and without them I would be no-where. I want to give them business because I know the service I get if I have a problem will be top notch. There service out weighs the slight price difference to me.
