Hey, does anyone keep Chinchillas? Ive always wanted chinchillas as far back as I remember. I am thinking of getting a couple soon but wanted to see if any owners have any advice or experience about them? Do they make god pets?

Thank you, definitely going to get a couple. Need to buy a big cage first though.

Yes, they are really sweet natured. They can nip if you startle them but they tend to "nibble" more than bite. Mine love cuddles and raisins!!!!

We had a couple of them. They are very messy as mentioned with the sand. Our were tame and loved coming out, but a pain to catch again once loose.

Cool, do they get very tame with regular handling. I would definitely be handling regularly, but would be annoyed if they never got tame. I had a rabbit when I was younger but every time I went near it she would bite me. It drew blood most times, not too pleasant.

Hi! Yeah, I've got two Chinchillas.....a black and a grey marble. They are pretty much like keeping rabbits......save that they make little whistling sounds, and you cant keep them outdoors. They love rolling around in sand, so if you are going to have one, make sure you keep it somewhere where you wont mind sand being thrown out over the cage sides coz they can be pretty messy. Bigger the cage the betta really.
