Hi, having issues with monitoring temps at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a good thermometer or way of monitoring temps other than the usual methods? Vague huh? I know!

Thanks!

Bought one from big green pet store...

Needs must I suppose!

All much better now. Was quite concerned of overheating the viv.

I've chucked analog thermometer. Pointless!

Thanks for all support!

Yep lol I'd get rid of the dial one tho lol they aint much good as they measure the air temperature whereas you need to know what the temps are on the ground where the snake is

Thanks Fezza, JB, Falice.

I'm gonna take all that on board and head out now and buy a new digital thermometer. Better safe than sorry right?

Thanks!

Cheap thermometers on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-LCD-Thermometer-Reptile-Vivarium-/290836593376?pt=UK_Kitchen_Accessories&hash=item43b7363ae0

Ok. Generally speaking, the round analouge thermometers are not very accurate. The same can be said for stats. The digital themometers are again, generally speaking accurate.

With those things in mind;
1) chuck away the round thermometer
2) keep the digital ones
3) adjust the setting on the stat until you get the temps you're aiming for on the digital thermometers
4) make a note of what setting you need on the stat to get the correct tepms, this will help if anything gets messed up or adjusted by mistake in the future
5) monitor the temps over the next 12-24 hours to ensure that everything settles ok

I find that habistats tent to be a few degrees out, I think it's quite normal, as long as the thermometer is showing the correct temp then it should be fine. I use digital thermometers with probes in both my vivs, I think they are actually aqaurium ones. Found them on ebay for only a few quid, can't find a link though. I don't know anything about the temp guns but I have heard they are good.

I've got one of those round ones in at present along with 2 digital ones but there's seems to be a disagreement between the digital therms and the round one. The digital ones have a wire that has a probe connected to it.

Also, my habistat thermostat tends to not produce the heat it says it is emitting when on. ie the temp on the stat isn't necessarily the temp inside the viv. It's a few degrees out. Normal?

Infra red gauge/gun might be a good idea?

I think digital thermometers are best or infra red temp guns are supposed to be good

What thermometers are you using at the moment?
