Hello,
Little bit of a crisis...the light in the viv just blew...
So we now have to but a new lighting system as all the bulbs we've seen are screw in, the one we had was a bayonet fitting..
So we need a new one (bulb and fittings) : fast.
Any recommendations (note: it needs to emit light).
Edit: We've had a look at bayonet fitted basking bulbs, there were blue day light bulbs, red incadesent bulbs, clear ones...what would be best? Reminding that that it needs to have a bayonet fitting.

I'm also using a heat mat with a stat for most of the heat, we'll get a IR bulb soon.

If it's on constantly for 10 hours whilst on a stat id say it's nowhere near powerful enough.

you can get most brands of ir bulbs from reptile shops I use exo terra or pro rep but the lowest watt they use is 60 watt I cant believe that a 25watt actually heats the viv, most reptile shops sell ceramic fittings for these type of bulbs, just make sure you have it on a dimmer stat if your using it as the main source of heat you will need it on 24hours a day not ten, just to let you know. also would not recommend a normal spotlight for a royal it will stress it out big time it will be far to bright they either need a red emitting or ceramic.

wattage being too high doesnt really matter so long as its on a stat - its a bulb thats too low thats an issue.

out of interest CC, was your bulb more "on" than "off"?

You gotta love getting new stuff for your snake

Is a 40w gonna have enough power?

We've bought a ProRep Basking Spotlight 40W BC, a larger artificial hide and more bark :)
Thank you for your suggests, we'll go red next time :P
rockroyal Posted - 21/01/2013 : 16:44:29

Red incadesent would be my choice if I could'nt use ceramic
