Posted - 25/01/2013 : 09:13:09 God knows how he did it, but Baileys tried to garrott himself last night with his mouse. Offered him his mouse in his faun which he struck at and took into his hide to eat, so left him to it. About an hour later Jane noticed him squirming on top of his hide. On closer inspection Ii could see he was in distress. You'll have to try and picture this as there was too much stress to stop and take a picture. He had swallowed the mouse head first, but the tail was looped around his bottom jaw and down his throat with the mouse. As he was trying to swallow the mouse, the tail has tightened around has jaw and had crushed the two halves together and folded the right half of his jaw inside out. I managed to just get a hold of the mouses tail that was doubled down his throat with some tweezers and pulled the tip out of his throat. Even with the tip now free, the tail was so tight around his jaw that it took a while to prise free. Thankfully, as I freed his jaw he regurgitated the mouse. He stayed nice and still allowing me to gently massage his jaw back round the right way, although he still had a squint jaw and a bit of his internal mouth sticking out the side like a thick lip. After holding him for a while to see how he was going to react he thankfully started trying to realign his jaw. By the time I put him back in the thick lip look had gone even though his jaw was still squint, but he was a lot happier. Took him out this morning and he's now back to normal. What a relief. |

Posted - 25/01/2013 : 13:23:49 He won't be getting to eat in private again. Most of them get fed out of their vivs on newspaper on the floor, except Winny, but he seems to prefer to hide. |
