Posted - 22/06/2013 : 23:40:18 Ok so I'll be moving soon and decided to ditch the viv and go for a 33l RUB. It's a 20w prorep mat with and old microclimate on/off stat. I've given it a trial run to see how well/bad it holds the temps and it struggles to go past 30'c. It's a really useful box with the hex plastic spacer bits on the bottom so if I chop them off so the mat is in direct contact with the rub, will that transfer the heat better? I was also thinking about putting some sort of insulation on the bottom. I'm sure you guys have loads of ideas so if you could chuck 'em my way, that would be great :) |

Posted - 23/06/2013 : 16:24:16 I tryed the probe on the mat but even on max the temps dont get through enought into the rub. At the moment it just inside the warm hide directly on the kitchen roll. When i get the temps sorted i plan on gluing the probes just outside the hide so snakey doesnt sit on it/move it and cause the temps to go grazy :) getting there slowly lol |

Posted - 23/06/2013 : 14:36:35 Reset the min/max on the digi therm and left it over night. Put some rocks and wood in aswell to weigh it down and the temps are ok-ish. Takes about a hour to get from 29 (lowest) to 33 (max). But from 33 it drops to 29 in about 10 mins. I Dont wanna put my royal in there until im dead sure the mat can handle it. If it struggles now then whats it goin to be like in the winter? Will try this radiator foil stuff and see if that helps. One more thing, do you think if i put the rub in a rack i guess there will be less if a breeze to cool it down? Thanks for the help anyways :) |

Posted - 23/06/2013 : 06:16:45 The heat reflector stuff is from b&q look for radiator reflector it comes in a roll it looks like tin foil with a foam backing. how have you got the rub at the minute? If everything is in ready for snake like hides and water bowls etc. it will weigh it down holding it against the mat better. what temp is the stat go up too i had a 100w microclimate mat stat with a 7w heat mat and i got 34c but you have to sit and watch it though as the temp fluctuates so you might always be catching it at its lowest point. i have my rubs set up with kitchen roll too 2 sheets thick and i keep my thermometer probe under the kitchen roll with hide on top directly over the center of the heat mat |

"also make sure your rub is set exactly the way it will be with snake in"
Good point, but I have no substrait at the moment but will be using kitchen roll... but if I cant get temps up with no substrait then when I put the kitchen roll down its going to be even colder :s |

Posted - 22/06/2013 : 23:59:17 Leave the rub as it is, putting a sheet of polystyrene or heat reflective roll under the mat so heat is not lost will help, my micro climate used to work ok just crank it up to full power and it should fluctuate between 30c and 33c. also make sure your rub is set exactly the way it will be with snake in |
