Hi All - quick catch-up on Honey and Pretzel - I moved them both into RUBs in July - Honey started a fast in mid-August, eating only one 66g rat in October and one 40g rat today - she's gone from 1300g down to 1172g but has remained in good condition, as far as I can tell - meanwhile Pretzel has fed relentlessly, going from 650g to 1126g, until today, when he refused food for the first time ever! I remain delighted to be the owner of two beautiful royals and I look forward to seeing what 2015 brings!
Merry Christmas everyone!

We have followed the 10% guide as a level to prevent long fasting worries. Although we did have one lose slightly more than that before starting to eat again and piled the weight back on. Worrysome critters.

Yeah I'm hoping for views from any of the more experienced keepers out there

Sounds sensible. I'm not sure myself which is why I asked.

I've heard a figure of 10% quoted as a rough guide to what is "too much" weight loss, which is a bit more than Honey has lost - but I tend to think that if the snake has no other symptoms and is taking the occasional small meal (as Honey has done), then the fast is just a fast and not a sign of ill health ........but I'd welcome other's opinions!

Merry Christmas.

Quick question: How much weight loss does a snake need to lose before you need to call a vet?

I hope honey eats better in 2015.
