I wrote a thread on the dark side and for once, I thought I'd stick up for myself.....
Here's what I wrote:
I'm looking into getting a garter snake or a retic python....... i no the stuff about the garter but i need some help gettin to grips with the reitc facts.......
How big do they grow?
what size tank do they need?
what heat do the need?
ehat food do they need?
And before this one turns into a slagging match the only reason im asking on here is because alot of people have good advice and info on here...... If your gunna slag this thread off or try n start an arguement then ckear off and get a life......... sorry but most of my other threads have tured out in a slaggin match so i jus thought id say i dnt want this 1 turnin out like the rest!!!!

Some ones gotta say something and if it wasnt me it would of been some other dude..... I'm hoping some of you lot have done the same on your threads as well!!

If you want a garter there is one big thing to realise, they stink! I clean mine every 2-3 days and she craps for England!
I think my main thing with Retics is they scare the living brown stuff outta me. I had to "help" a guy move a 12 footer once, luckily I was wearing bike gloves as that bugger did NOT like me and tried to chew my hand off...Hate blood pythons for the same reason (same guy as well) |

I have loads of retics and most are fantastic temprements, 1 just wants to handled and wont go back in the viv. Even the others are only bad while in the viv, get them out and they are fine.

I give it an hour or so from now for the pitchfork brigade and the keyboard warriors to eat the meal that their mums cooked for them then it will kick off for sure  .
I get where you are coming from with regard to the choice. I was trying to decide a while back between a royal morph or a monitor. Calm, placid, agrophobic snake or big, finger eating, attention seeking bad-ass lizard. If you like garters and retics then asking questions of experienced keepers could help you decide whilst giving the rest of us the added bonus of watching you get flamed on there  . We'll jump to your defence.........honest! |

Garters are really cool little snakes, total pigs and smelly as hell, make sure they are feeding on defrost mice/rats (mine eats ANYTHING you put infront of it).
BUT, I think your either/or choice is a touch weird, they are sooooo different as to be almost laughably different.
Don't see the point in getting Retics, they are just TOO big and nasty. Unless you can get a PROVEN super dwarf, and then it's just a big Royal..........with a bad temper |
