Hey Guys
i need to know a little more on brumation, i think my little girl
is sleeping a lot! she use to be a very active Royal, all over her viv, but since her last feed she hasnt been out much, which was a week ago, she is hiding all the time and not moving much, the temps is has been normal for the last few months, i havent changed anything, it is winter here by us in SA though...
the other thing, she is very defensive, she looks like she wants to strike when i open the viv.

Now i dont know if this is part of brumation or shedding (as she hasnt shed in 5weeks, but have been eating well! with no coloration change)
i have been leaving her alone to settle or sleep...

some info would help!

If she's been left a lone for a week, no harm trying a feed imo.

i have 2 lights in the viv, an infra red light and a reptile flourescent bulb, the reptile light for the
day and the infra red for the night, what i have noticed is that she hides during the day,
in the hide on the cool end, then at night under the cover of darkness and infra red, she will move
over to the warm side hide and only stick her head out slightly, but if i move in the room she will retreat completely to the hide, when i open the viv she will become very anxious... looks like she want to tag me
i have been leaving her alone for a week now, havent offered a feed yet, do you guys think i should?

the temps in the viv differ for day and night -77 day time to 70 at night

Probably just a shed thing, but what's the light like?

Snakes go into brumation after a reduction in temperature and light (shorter photo period). It's unlikely she'd go down if the temps are still high, but the lack of light might explain the grumpiness

Sorry, I didn't realise (or read thoroughly) that it was winter there.

Wrong time of year for Brumation, unless you're artificially changing the temps and photo-periods on purpose.

even though its winter time where you are i dont think it would be going into brumation if you have not lowered the temps.
It,s summer here and mine has been hiding for months, thats just royals for you.

Sounds like she is going to shed!

See what her response is on the next feed.
