hi, ive just been reading the art of keeping snakes and the author suggests that a royal python be only handled for 15 mins, twice a week maximum. although i have read elsewhere that handling should be most days for about an hour. im now feeling very confused, so if someone could shed some light on this i would be very gratefull!

many thanks, sarah.

precisely what i thought when he said it.!?
but then again, when someone says something like that and they SEEM to know what they're talking about, you dont ask too many questions.

i suppose a lot of it is down to the temprementof your snake too. Velvet seems quite happy to be out and about, but then others may not like to so much.

thanks for the advise people. im not sure if i should carry on with what she was used to as i brought her from a lady at six months old and she said that she handled her every day for about an hour when she had her, or do i reduce that a bit. i dont want her getting stressed out. saying that, she has allways eaten well although she was handled quite a bit. ???

i was told by the guy at my local reptile store that royals love being handled & you should handle them often but for short periods of time. ?!

To be honest i don't take much notice to be honest. i never handle until a minimum of 2 days after feeding or if she's shedding. Any other time i fancy a cuddle, i do so. i'd say she comes out every other day for a little while. not a long time, but just for some excersise.

I don't handle Princess for more than about 15 minutes and it's usually less than once a week.

Feather seems to like being held, so she gets out a lot more.

Personally I don't handle more than once a week.
