Jus't tried feeding Beau for the first time, he struck at the food 3 times but hasn't eaten it!!!! Not sure if he was just strking cos he is cheesed off or whether he wants the food, last fed few days before xmas. Have obeyed the 7 day rule, no handling or feeding. Have left the food on the floor in viv, to let him get on with it, is that ok? |

i think you might be right, i will try the hairdryer method next weekend, as he hasn't touched the food i left in overnight, i have now taken it out.i will leave him this week, again and not disturb him, and try him again on friday or saturday. Thanks for all the advice guys. |

Hi Spor, Caesar went 3 and a half months before deciding to eat, although he barely lost any weight in that time and was a good size to start with. |

I think as said above you might have ended up cooking it rather than heating it. all the advice is there above. good blast with the hair dyer i would say is probably the most common and most successful . From the pic you put up i thought his skin looked a bit dull, a sign of approaching shed. but it may just have been the photograph quality, thats why i was asking.
good luck with leaving it in. don't panic if its not taken. One of mine hasn't eaten for over a month and I am sure thats not the longest on here. BE did have one on 3months, don't know if it has eaten. If they are a wee bit older and have a bit of weight behind them they well be fine. It when there hatchlings and your coming up to your 4th week of not eating that you need to take action. |

I defrost all my rodents in a plastic freezer bag in warm water and then when they are fully thawed I place on a kitchen towel and dry them with a hair dryer leaving the dryer over the head ofr a minute or two before I try and feed, all mine strike feed so if they don't take first time I will try again later and again warm the mouse with a hair dryer, if they still don't feed I wait a few days and try again with freshly defrosted food. |

some DO take a while to settle in and de-stress.........
and yes, the head end for being super hot, it helps them to sense where it is and which end to go for
if you super-heat the whole thing it will just cook it and make it unappetising |

Just the head end??? i still wondered if he is still settling from the move, if he hasn't taken it by morning i will leave him until next weekend before i try again, not going to panic yet, as i know he was fed just before xmas, and reading some of the posts on here has put my mind at rest knowing he can go a few weeks/months without feeding. Although there was a post on here from a previous thread i had put on from SPOR who asked if he was about to shed. from the pic i put on here, but his eys are still nice a clear and not cloudy or blue? |

Yes i heated it up, we have a Rayburn so i put it in a plastic container, put that on a plate and put in on there for a good 20-30 mins so it was nice and hot for him, its now under his hide with him on the heat mat, so its staying the same temp as him i would say. |

i'd maybe try one more time, making sure the head of the prey item is super-hot (my royal would leave it if it wasn't hot enough) then just leave him to it....
and try not to undisturb him, maybe ever cover over his tub/faun/viv with a towel so he has complete privacy |
