OK so it starts now...
Just tried and failed to get my two royals to take their first feeds and guess what two refusals at the first try.
Did everything I'd do with my corns and Zazu is more interested in cuddling up with the rat fluff and Rafiki was just dam scared of the pup every time I moved it.
I know that Royals can be notoriously bad feeders but just wondering if there's anything I'd be better off trying I defrosted then warmed on a heat mat when that had no joy I tried warming the head on a light bulb for 10 seconds still no joy tried in the viv out of the viv in a different rub. Still not even the slightest note of interest. Not keen to start braining as I've been told if I do that then they'll expect it all the time.
Any help or comments would be much appreciated....

Thanks

Ross

congratulations hunni, it took our baby's a couple of weeks of not feeding before they both settled in and now they both strike feed and are greedy little buggers lol

She ate cue fireworks and a brass band lol

Even a half hearted strike is good news, it means Zazu`s getting hungry, try again in a few days.

Right an update Rafiki the male strike fed last night for the first time with me, took him a while to figure out what end was what though tried really hard not to have a good laugh as he struggled to find the head.
Zazu's still refusing apart from one half hearted strike and then she just turned her nose up at it. Good job I'm patient lol.

It can be very hard, but best for the snake long term if you can do it
UncleNos Posted - 10/08/2010 : 17:27:05
Ok it's just going to take a bit of getting used too instead of the corns taking whenever they are offered...

Leaving them alone will be tough especially Zazu as I said as soon as you open the lid to change the water she's trying to get onto my hand, but I'll try.
Blackecho Posted - 09/08/2010 : 16:24:54
It it was me, I'd:

A, Stop handling until they are feeding regularly.

B, Leave completely alone for at least a week to settle in.

Yes tried moving them out of their rubs

Just a few days but they where due a feed so not panicking about her not taking anything yet

Yes Zazu is almost always looking to be handled. Just open the rub put my hand in and she comes out onto my hand and settles. Rafiki just finished his shed yesterday morning so hasn't been handled much at all.

Temperature wise the warm end is 31C and the cool end is 26-27C not controlled as yet still waiting for my thermostats that are now four days late in arriving (not happy) but sitting with a half inch airgap between rub and mat so little chance of overheating.

Did you move them out of their RUBs to feed?

How long have you had them, are they still settling in?

Are you handling them?

What temperatures are their RUBs at, how are these measured and controlled?
UncleNos Posted - 08/08/2010 : 23:43:01
Whoo hoo....

Rafiki has taken his I'd just put them in the RUBs with them to see if they just wanted peace and he's just taken his. Just Zazu now, I'm trying the same with her.
