Have to say there are bargains about.

Wilkinsons. Kitchen tongs, 2.50, with soft plastic grips. Tongs with metal grips, same price. Small tongs, 99p. Compare these prices with those of reptile feeding tongs. (I do prefer the soft plastic grips, because if snakey misses, it won't encounter cold hard metal. The grips look enormous, but snakes don't seem to notice.)

Temperature gun. I have long fancied one of these little gismos. Snake temp calculations these days are getting into rocket science realms (ditch the realistic fake plants and simulated rock hides - the viv is full of equipment probes, wires, dials, lcd displays) Been browsing on the net, asking about in diy stores etc, then someone suggested Maplins. Who knew what I was talking about. Okay, it was £50 but I had a money-off voucher. Now I can take temps everywhere, in the vivs and, if I have to use them, the spare rubs, without fiddling about with extra equipment and worrying about the accuracy of thermometers or if snakey has moved the probes and wires... brilliant!

Online, Blue Lizard have Habistat matstat on offer at 16.99 and Microclimate 100 stats on offer at 13.99 - among many other items. Delivery free on orders over £50. Friendly service and my order came through as arranged ... very pleased!

Would like to add - did already have stats (Habistat matstats bought locally at £31)and Shahi, whose bulb is guarded but only for illumination at present, is going to have a dimmer stat when he's older!

Anyone else got any news of bargains to be had?
