Betty had her first rat today. Must be the day for it looking at suzie q's post.
I cut a mouse round the neck while it was still frozen then put it in with a washed rat to defrost and she took it straight away.
Im going to gradually take away the mouse smell with each feed and se how she takes to them now she has the taste.

Very proud

Great tip, will try it too.

Ha! I might try that too. I've defrosted rat and mouse together, tried scenting ratty with mousy brain, mousy guts ...eww, and to no avail. I had heard of washing the rat, and using washing up liquid too, to remove the ratty smell, but it sort of slipped my mind. (Not difficult lol.)

I've even considered keeping a couple of pet mice to supply me with the necessary smelly bedding to scent ratty (petshops round here don't do mice so I can't go in and beg a bit of bedding, and I do like mice despite having a freezer full of mice lollies.)

I'd planned to start off with ratty in full mousy jacket, but first I'll try giving poor ratty a bubble bath, rinsing well of course, and then tucking him up with a nice warm mouse.

The things we do to give our snakes the best of care, eh?

In the meantime, many congrats on the feed!

Yay well done. I was a bit worried about giving the rat but Hercules took it as soon as I dangled it in front of him, cannot believe how these snakes can give you such a good feeling of achievment
