Set it all up this morning and i cant get the temp up to 32. It is a 2 x 18 x 18 wooden viv, p.p. therm. sensor just below heat guard that is about 4 inches from heat emitter. Got dig. therm and sensor i have put on bottom of viv goes from 25.6 to 26.8. Should i put p.p. sensor on line with emitter?

Because that is the temp point of the probe. It will be much higher than that at the bulb and a lower than that at the opposite side. Unless your thermometer is sat next to the probe it will always be different

You could try moving the stat probe further away from the emitter, towards the cool end. The temp needed further away will be lower than at the hot end; thus it gives you a wider range of adjustment to play with (if that makes sense ...I'm terrible at explaining these things!)

Put stat on full for the last 7 hrs. moved the viv on top of the other still only reading 29.8, anything else i can try?

TRUE!

Long after the snakes and I am gone from this house, the walls will still exude the ghostly whisper ....

F*******G STATS!

Don't rely on the markings on the stat either, they are at best a guide but personally I think its a waste of ink printing it on. Just follow the thermometer readings and make the necessary adjustments.

turned right up it is moving now, will turn down a bit later see if it stops at 32, thx
Lotabob Posted - 03/04/2011 : 20:44:14
with the stat if its set right it will raise the temp quite quickly until it approaches the set temp and then the rise will slow more and more until it levels out at the set temp.
The other way to do it is turn the stat right up until it goes over the temp and slowly cool it back down to the required temp (this is only done with no snake)

Its like watching paint dry, hopefully should be ok by Tues when he comes.
Lotabob Posted - 03/04/2011 : 20:25:27
You shouldn't struggle to get the temps right with 150 watts behind it.
stumpy Posted - 03/04/2011 : 20:20:05
thx have moved them see what happens i am on a 150 watt heat emitter
Lotabob Posted - 03/04/2011 : 19:28:40
The stat & thermometer probes should be slap bang in the centre of the hotspot (or as near as is physically possible), that is where its at its hottest on the ground. How is your ambient temp performing? If they are both not gettitng hot enough then move up to a bigger wattage emitter.
