Posted - 14/04/2011 : 20:46:06 I'd like to keep Tia's old sheds as proof of her growing (can't always see these things when you see her every day). Do they degrade over time? If so what is the best way of preserving and storing them? Does anybody out there actually do this? |

Posted - 13/05/2011 : 16:58:08 I wanted to keep the 1st shed from each of my gang but wasn't sure how to keep them then had a flash of inspiration and remembered I had a laminator, problem solved, even now it's nice to look back at their 1st shed, it's only then you appreciate how fast they grow. |

Posted - 13/05/2011 : 08:17:35 I gave a couple of skins to a work friend so her daughter could use them for show and tell at school. Apparently they when down very well, but when she got to the part of showing the face to the class her teacher screamed and ran out of the class (I guess she has a phobia), all the kids were fine |

Posted - 13/05/2011 : 07:23:27 I am only intending to keep the skins as a measure of how Tia has grown. Once the skins have stopped increasing in size then I'll probably start binning the rest. By the way, she had a big dump yesterday so I weighed her straight afterwards. She is now 708g. |

Posted - 12/05/2011 : 23:12:10 I started going down the route of keeping them all but then I remembered that they live for 20 years, what possible use do I have with a drawer full of snakeskin so I decided I will keep their first skin and at some point I'm going to have them set in acrylic and the rest are going in the bin, or maybe start leaving them in supermarkets that is sure to get in the paper if someone finds a 3.5 foot long snake skin in their bananas. Look out Tesco I'm coming to get you. |

Posted - 12/05/2011 : 15:30:47 Well, as a postscript ...
For a week or two now I've been aware of a most horrible smell in my livingroom. Obvious causes, such as a forgetful cat, dead prey brought in from garden, fishtank or condensation from fishtank, all eliminated ... not a rot smell or food or stale cigarette smell ... the best description I could find was to call it a 'dead frog smell'. not that I know what a dead frog smells like, but it had that stagnant quality ... been making me feel sick.
I had a huge bunch of snakeskins draped over a stoneware pot of dried seedheads. Dry, well-aired, clean, but that's what caused the smell.
I'm heartbroken. I loved those snakeskins. I was like a mother keeping a bit of her baby's hair and its first bootees.
But, oh boy, they didn't half pong! |

Posted - 15/04/2011 : 21:14:10 LOL - DON'T tempt Kelfezond lol!
If a snakeskin is all rolled up and stuck together, just mist it a bit, and it can then be easily unrolled. |

Posted - 15/04/2011 : 21:08:26 Tia's skin was also like a rolled up condom. Come on Kelfezond, you're not telling me that's the size condom you need? I just carefully unrolled it and lay it out. The tail isn't attached, but my oldest son is a wizard with cellotape. |

Posted - 15/04/2011 : 17:38:51 I never get skins in good enough condition to keep, they're either fallen apart or wet, slimey, covered in poo and wrapped up like little snakeskin condoms :( |

Posted - 15/04/2011 : 07:17:33 Thanks folks. I think I'll have to find some suitable receptacle to keep them in. My wife would draw the line at skins hanging around. |
