cannot get my humidity down from 80. 3' wooden viv, on aspen, normal reptile water bowl up cold end, all other temps ok.

I have a ceramic 150w, but after 9pm the heater is more or less OFF as the natural temp in my house is 21c (70f) without the central heating on.

Sounds like yours is duff too with those readings. Or your probe is too close to the heat source.

Sounds reasonable if he is using a heat lamp. That thing zaps humidity really quick.

So yeah, if your humidity is really high and the gauge is not faulty, try using a heat lamp - that will lower that humidity in a jiffy.

must be duff because there no condensation, in the bin it goes
Lotabob Posted - 09/05/2011 : 19:58:42
at 80%+ there would be condensation on the glass, if there is no condensation your getting duff reading.

As a bit of reassurance Royals in the wild actually live in areas were the humidity levels are higher than 80%. Not that i for one minute believe that your setup would be anything like that, sounds like a wonky gauge.

Thx, its a round one, have got digital therm as well also 3 other round ones around the tank they all reading ok. No swimming pool only fish tank. Will leave doors open when i get him out and check
Kelfezond Posted - 09/05/2011 : 11:15:05
I had a hydrometer with a reading of 80% on my first viv, I fixed it by throwing the Hydrometer in the bin :P

They seem to be rather dodgey little things, if your viv is set up correctly and the room you're in doesn't contain a swimming pool you should be fine and looking at a faulty hydrometer, if the thing changes when you take it out the viv to a normal reading then try putting the probe in the viv and leaving the viv doors open for a while to see if that makes a difference (Preferably when handling the snake lol don't want an escapee) Just do some tests to see if it seems to be giving a correct reading :)

Digital or one of them useless round ones
markmifsud Posted - 09/05/2011 : 11:01:21
could it be that your gauge is faulty and that your humidity is not high? Are there any other signs of it being high other than the gauge
