hi all
before i get jumped i know how bloody funny they can be at feed time, ok i have 5 royals 3 bought last year, now 2 of them have fed better than my boas till april now wont touch a thing the other started as a force feeder and i have got her to strike  which im proud of as its my first force feeder. but she too has gone off her food. the other 2 im not too worried about yet as i have only had them 2 weeks so they are still getting used to thier new place. other royual keepers i have spoke to have said the same thing that even thier best feeders have gone off thier food. so is it the time of year as tanks are the same temps are good ect???????

I have 8 royals and apart from the two CB10s they all stopped feeding and have only just started again within the last 4 weeks but boy are they making up for lost time now :) |

thank you for all the help, i do worry i love it when my boas and burm is there going i smell food!!!!!!! then the royals say i smell food but its not cavier they are complete SNOBS. im quite luck as i have just bought a 1100g spider so fingers crossed i will beable to breed this year |

My female Bumblebee was an avid feeder got to 1000g and has stopped since April, Its what they do unfortunately, was hoping to breed her this winter but that isn`t going to happen.

They have a habit of doing that, just because she isn't feeding unless she has emptied herself in a spectacular way their will still be food inside that she is still digesting and taking nutrients from it. I find their whole digestive process fascinating. |

hi all
i know they do this but i am a worrier, and and hoping to start breeding myself this season. my temps seem ok, hot end is about 31 and the cool end is 26-27 and as i have said the 2 i bought last years babies have been gannets till march.
i love my royals but i worry that much from a breeding point of view im thinking of selling some of them to relieve some of the stress. stupid thing is my cb10 female pastel has gained weight even though she hasnt eaten for 3 months  go figure |

You know, I almost started a thread on this subject myself. I've heard of royals being very late fasters - feeding all winter and not fasting till spring, and I've also wondered, with the very cold weather we've had this year (maybe a bit of 'spring' in April but not a whole lot since) if the general atmosphere has affected our royals despite their thermostatically controlled environments? (Just off the top of my head guys, I know I'm no expert lol but just a thought.)
My Surahi fasted in the New Year, began to eat again at the beginning of May, but has gone off again for several weeks.
There again - they're royals. I reckon as long as they get something in their bellies for part of the year, that's the royal diet. I sometimes think we should compare them to camels lol. |

I'm sure its not the problem but what are your temps, setup etc?
The only thing I can think of with them more or less all going off food at aqround the same time is you have males and 1 female and she is giving off pheremones to say come and get me boys and all the males are picking up on it though I have no knowledge in snakie breeding so it is at best a guess. |
