Hi, when sealing a new viv, do i need a special type of silicone or will any old garden variety silicone be safe?

Haha, I hate the smell of sealant, I made the mistake of having my head inside the vivarium as I was sealing it. My head didn't stop hurting for a good few hours afterwards....

Yes, as above. I got 310ml tube of Geocel from Swellreptiles for £6 approx - needed a caulking gun to apply it - B&Q £3 approx. So far it has done 6 x 3' vivs and 1 x 2' viv and there's still some left. For just one viv you can get smaller sizes, these can be applied without the gun.

I only did the floor area seams and about 2" upwards, as I wanted to be able to partly dismantle vivs if needs be at a future date. And the fumes are a KILLER - if you've never used it before, do the job in as much fresh air as poss and keep livestock out of the way. Once cured for 48hrs it's fine.

I would go for a aquarium sealant non toxic, comes on a long tube
Can be brought on eBay for about £5-6
